I was born long ago
I am the chosen, I’m the one

I have come – to save the day
And I won’t leave until I’m done

So that’s why – you’ve got to try
You’ve got to breathe and have some fun

Though I’m not paid- I play this game

And I won’t stop until I’m done

(But what I really want to know is)

Are you gonna go my way

The above lyrics taken from the hit song Are You Gonna Go My Way by Lenny Kravitz

Someone told me once that its about Jesus Christ. That its a Holy Rolling Christian anthem with an underlying message about going ‘Christs Way’..

Make no bones about it Lenny Kravitz is an uber righteous dude! – but where is he? In my opinion we need him now more than ever as black music may be inching closer to grabbing up guitars and Marty McFlying into the future. I peeped that new B.O.B track featuring Rivers Cuomo from Weezer.. and yeah.. to me that song feels like an in authentic stab at mixing RnB/Rap with Rock. if you compare it to Are You Gonna Go My Way you’ll see there is a distinct lack of soul-sonics and in the same way that pop/white artists depend on a street credible black artist to make their radio music harder – this ‘Magic’ track seems to be depending on the white guy indie rocker sound to authenticate B.O.B’s Rock and Roll effort. How outrageous is that? We all know that black people initiated rock and roll! These neo black alternative artists don’t need to validate sheiiiit, unless they are a strangers in the virtual reality of their own songs that is. Having said that, could it be theorized that since Lenny Kravitz is both black and white that he maybe authenticated himself? That people felt more comfortable with a guy that was half Jewish/half black being a holy Rock n Roller? Who knows! ask SLASH!

Is the world at large afraid of the Miles Davis’ the Murray Lightburn’s and the Cody ChestnuTT’s? This may explain Justin Beiber, where you get the black sound without the black crown. These are deep rhetorical questions of course – and i really have no idea what the answers are. What i do know is that Lenny Kravitz is still kicking every-one’s ass!!! Come ON….! who cares if your music is black enough/street or whatever? If you are a ‘black persona’ or a REAL persona, does it even matter? Don’t be afraid … its inevitable .. just get some guitar chords together and LETS DO THIS!! Stop talking about the party and BE the party.
